I have been proud to be a student in the Tulsa Public Schools district since my early school days. After over a decade in TPS, I am excited to have been accepted to Oklahoma State University and continue my academic journey. Though the road through TPS had some bumps, the district provided me a quality education that has prepared me for the future. While resources for arts and extracurriculars were sometimes lacking, my teachers always motivated me to work hard and strive for excellence. Their guidance developed my grit, determination, and self-sufficiency.
Despite some dismissive administrators, the good times in TPS outweigh the bad looking back. I am grateful for the wonderful teachers, academic opportunities, and life lessons that shaped me over my years in the district. TPS molded me into a driven student ready to take on new challenges at OSU.

In my experience at Tulsa Public Schools I have learned that not everyone is cut out to teach kids. Admin tend to treat kids with as much respect as a 2 year old. I have attended Edison Prepatory School since 6th grade and have observed a gross inequality among funding. Our Athletic directors fund very few organizations/sports. The successful arts programs such as band, drama, and orchestra receive little to no funding and Pom and Cheer receive nothing. The Edison Pom program has brought home several regional and state championships and is 2nd in the nation. But receive no assistance. The orchestra and band programs have had several all state students and Drama placed 1st in One Act against the biggest school in our district. Tulsa Public schools all around teaches you grit, determination and perseverance. Because what I have learned from the leadership in my school and my district is that you are on your own. If you want to be successful, you will have to do it by yourself.

TPs isn’t the best of the best but they do care for their students the high school I went to specifically was extremely helpful and really cared about their students. TPs does care about their students futures and gives students opportunities to take classes at tcc while still in high school or to take classes at Tulsa tech while still in high school. I took advantage of tcc and was able to gain 30 credit hours while still in high school which was extremely helpful to me because it just put me that far ahead in my schooling and let me see what college was going to be like before I was a strictly college student.
