From Cabo to la Paz by Car Rental (Most Convenient – My Choice)
Renting a car is always my first choice, in most places, of course not in Mexico city where you can get an Uber or any other Car lift service.
However, from my experience traveling around Baja California is much better by car, unless you want to go from the Airport to the Hotel only and do organized tours only or just get pampered in one of the spectacular Cabo Hotels.
I went to Baja twice and all the time I rented a car because I wanted to explore the surroundings. I had a blast. You can read my Baja road trip in my dedicated post.
I usually recommend booking on Discover cars because you can compare the rates from different car rentals and be sure you get the best deals.

From Cabo International Airport to Los Cabos Hotels
Now, I wanted to include this option in case before going to La Paz you have a few nights anywhere in Cabo.
Here is a great service that will take you safely and soundly to your hotel without waiting too long at the airport or having to negotiate the fare with the taxi driver.
Here is a trustworthy company I just started to work with. I love them because as soon as you book you receive the contact details for your driver and you can get in touch so you won’t get lost at the airport. It’s kind of reassuring for me.
Are You on a Road Trip? Here Are the Best Stops Not to Miss from Cabo San Lucas to la Paz
Now, if you opted for renting a car you will probably want to make a few stops and enjoy some of the best places in Baja California Sur. There is so much to see but it all depends on how much time you have.
Here below I am going to share a list of places to stop by during your journey from Cabo to La Paz.
Mind that two roads take you to La Paz, one is via Todo Santo and the other one is via Santiago. Here I will tell you a little bit about both roads and the stop options you will have.
Cabo – La Paz via Todos Santos
Cabo La Paz via Cabo Pulmo
Cabo – La Paz Via Todos Santos
As you can see this way is much shorter but it has a couple of worthy stops.
El Pescadero
it’s a renowned fishing town with spectacular beaches suitable for surfing in fact is where you will find a vibrant surfing community. Even if you don’t surf you will enjoy the deserted beaches, the laid-back village vibe, and delicious restaurants.
Todos Santos
Todos Santos is one of the two magic towns in Baja California Sur (the other one is Loreto) – Here you can enjoy the tiny quaint historical center with art galleries, local artisan shops high-end restaurants, and cute cafes.
The sunsets are incredible so you may want to spend a night in one of the cute hotels there. I stayed in The Hotelito, a cute boutique hotel at a few walks from the beach.
There are great hikes as well if you want to spend some time there. So much to do to keep you entertained for a few days.
Cabo – La Paz Via Santiago
The south road will take you to other amazing spots. Let’s see them one by one.
San Jose del Cabo
San Jose del Cabo is a pretty town next to Cabo San Lucas, with a more colonial feel and a village vibe.
Here you can enjoy night strolls around the plaza, art galleries, lots of beaches, and some of the most exclusive hotels in Cabo, besides lots of incredible tours
Santiago
Santiago is a hidden village in the mountain range of the Sierra De La Laguna where you have many incredible hiking tour options.
If you are into hiking I would recommend spending a few nights there and joining some hiking tours by local tour guides.
I joined a group led by Edoardo from Baja Sierra Adventures and we had a great hike among giant boulders and cacti of the rocky desert.
Cabo Pulmo
Cabo Pulmo, is a special place for sea lovers. I spent a few days there and never wanted to leave. It’s a very small fishing village where tourists go mainly to enjoy the marine life.
Snorkeling in Cabo Pulmo is very common but if you are a diver, you should definitely dive there.
If you are traveling during whale season, your snorkeling tour will definitely be complemented by some spectacular whale watching with humpback whales that will jump out of the water right in front of your eyes.
It’s a unique experience and although it’s kind of a deviation from the road to La Paz, it’s really worth it if you have the time!
Los Barriles
Los Barriles is a tiny tranquil village with hotels and residential homes. I didn’t particularly fall in love with it but I enjoy the extended beaches and the tranquil sea with easy access to the water.
If you walk on the beach at sunrise you may see manta rays jumping in and out of the water.
